BRIAN LITTLE today insisted he will not walk away from Wrexham FC despite their losing streak.
Brain Little saw his side slump to a 3-0 defeat against Rushden & Diamonds at The Racecourse last night, a result that leaves the Reds 13th in the table.

For the second successive match, there with boos and jeers from supporters and calls for Little's head as Wrexham's poor run extended to four defeats in their last five matches.

Little says he wants to stay in the Wrexham hotseat but admitted he would walk away if asked to do so by the club's board.

"I am here, I want to be here and I am trying my best," said Little today. "If my best is not good enough and people don't want me to be here then fine.

"I don't want to make anyone's life a misery.

"I said to the players at half-time I want to do well. I am not here to fill in instead of doing something nice and pleasurable with my life.

"I want to be a manager and do well, and I was disappointed my team aren't reflecting how they can play but I accept responsibility for that.

"I will turn up for work until the day someone has a chat and says it is not right. But I fully intend to graft away. If any other decision is made, then fine."

Little admitted his players in recent matches had hardly helped his own cause with their performances, with all three Rushden goals coming from poor defending.

"I get on great with the people here," said Little.

"I have come here to help out. My job is to start the thing rolling.

"If you'd spoken to me three weeks ago, everyone in this room would have said this is fantastic and we are on a roll. And yet in three weeks it appears to have gone in the other direction.

"We all know what this game is about and I genuinely enjoy doing what I am doing, and I want to continue trying to do it.

"If it is not right and someone else wants to step in, Geoff only has to say that to me and it is not a problem.

"But I don't really want that to happen. I want to try and get this right.

"But the last two games, my team have not put too many signs up in big lights making it as if they want me to be here, which is a bit disappointing to say the least."

Little takes full responsibility for Wrexham's downturn in fortunes but knows his players - as they have shown on other occasions this term - are better than their recent form suggests.

And he hopes Wrexham can get back on track when they host Torquay United at The Racecourse on Saturday.

"It would be wrong to blame them totally. I pick the team, I tell them what to do and ultimately they try and do it," said Little.

"If they don't, in this business it is not fundamentally their fault but I think each of them know they are under performing and I don't think any of you would disagree with me on that one.

"People can play better than they have played tonight and that's the disappointing thing.

"They have under performed and I have to stand by them.

"We have worked hard to restructure the club. Quite obviously it isn't working as well as it should be but I think the disappointment is they have shown on several occasions they are capable of doing it.

"They are in a bit of a shell and we need to find a way out of that, and make sure they respond better.

"They have a great opportunity on Saturday, another home game against a team who won tonight so we will see how they go then."

Should Brian Little go?

Terry28,

Wilbarston: Northants 24/09/2008 19:45:40
Originally from Wrexham I now live in Northants just a few miles from Rushden. Some of their supporters that I know and who were at the game say that Wrexham were thr worst team that they have seen in years (Kettering supporters say much the same).
Last year was seen as a disaster for the team and the town but if things do not improve soon will we have Blue Square North next season. Remember, four teams go down from this league.
Failure to gain promotion this year could mean a prolonged spell outside the Football League since two strong teams,by virtue of points deduction, are likely to be relegated from League Two.

Orignally From Deeside I have been following Wrexham for 60yrs I have never known Wrexham so BAD. When Wrexham will get out of this if they dont make it this year ,with two very strong teams coming down next year.
Mr Little got rid of players as good if not better than this lot.I think this is the end of league football in Wrexham for ever it makes me cry to say it. I go and look at Carmarthen Town & Llanelli in the Welsh League and they will eat Wrexham for dinner. If Wrexham some how get back in to league this season I will be the happest man in the world
