DON'T think it's going to be easy.
That's the message from former midfield man Matty Crowell if Wrexham think can can waltz back into the Football League at the first time of asking.

Former Welsh under 21 international Crowell moved to Northwich Victoria after he was shown the door at The Racecourse, playing a massive part in the Cheshire side's fight to stave off relegation.

"It won't be easy and I'm sure you'll be surprised at what a good standard of football is played in the Blue Square Premier League," said Crowell, who made 15 appearances, scoring twice in his three month stint with Vics.

"Wrexham will be favourites, I'm sure, to go up – but there are a lot of decent sides in this league.

"I know we managed to stay up in the penultimate game of the season but if you used the form guide from January then we would have been in the top three.

"It's that kind of confidence we hope to take into next season. We're full-time and we've got to be thinking of top ten or better."

Crowell, 24 in July, knows that Wrexham away will be the first game he'll be looking for when the non-league fixtures are due out.

"It will be Wrexham's big derby game for next season and it's the one game I definitely want to play," said Crowell, who Denis Smith signed from Southampton.

"I had five years at Wrexham and it was sad to see them go down.

"Some fans will just remember me as someone who wanted to go around kicking everyone, but I enjoyed my time there."

Crowell didn't have the best of luck with injuries at The Racecourse and his misfortune is best summed up by his comeback game to prove himself to new boss Brian Little.

Crowell made the starting line-up at Rotherham on December 22 but was sent off after 14 minutes.

"Brian Little gave me the opportunity by picking me and I lasted 14 minutes. Enough said. The writing was on the wall after that."

But Crowell didn't have to wait long to get himself fixed up with a new club and he didn't need to move house either.

"It's turned out to be a good move for me and I'm just looking forward to August for the season to get going."
