NEW Wrexham FC manager Dean Saunders is determined to install a winning mentality that has been lacking during the club's decline in recent seasons.
Dean Saunders is Wrexham FC's fourth manager in 22 months and follows former Aston Villa boss Brian Little who left by mutual consent last Friday.

The former Wales international, who has penned a two-year deal, takes over with Wrexham 15th in the Blue Square Premier table after 12 matches, six points away from the play-offs.

But the positive thinking Saunders is focused on transforming the ailing fortunes at The Racecourse.

"The club has been losing consistently for four or five years and it stopped today," said Saunders.

"We are going to go forward and that is why I am here.

"We will get out of the league and get Wrexham to where they should be.

"I will set in stone principles at this club that everybody will adhere to.

"And every morning when they go out, they know exactly what is required of them.

"We have got to get a winning mentality in the club.

"I know it has been said by a lot of managers but this club has been full of losers and it has got to change.

"The club has got to get people in the club who want to win.

"That sounds a bit daft because you think most footballers want to win, but it is how far you are prepared to go to win football matches.

"Unless everybody feels the way I do they won't be here long.

"I am coming here to try and win something, that is what I have done in my career and I am only interested in that.

"I''m not interested in coming to Wrexham and just hovering half way up the table just doing my best."

Saunders will take on his first managerial role having coached at a number of clubs, and although he will continue to be one Wales boss John Toshack's assistants, he is relishing the challenge that lies ahead at Wrexham.

"I have put my neck on the line and I know that," said Saunders.

"But I don't see it as that type of situation and I am really excited to be here.

"I have spoken to many of my friends and they have said it is a great challenge for me.

"I know I can do it.

"How can Wrexham be in this position? So it is my job to turn it around.
"Geoff (Moss) has put things in front of me I did not think he was capable of.

"I ended thinking what a challenge this is going to be.

"I can't wait to get to the first game, get some results, and I can't wait to see people smiling in the stadium.

"That is all I am interested in.

"I want to be standing on the side of the pitch clapping myself saying 'well done'."
