Defeat tonight will see Wrexham relegated

BRIAN LITTLE stressed there is no pressure on his young Wrexham team to deliver the goods at Hereford United.
Defeat tonight will relegate Wrexham, even though there are two more games remaining after the trip to Edgar Street.

That is by virtue of the fact that Mansfield Town, the other side in the relegation zone, play third from bottom Dagenham and Redbridge on the final weekend of the season.

Little made wholesale changes for Saturday's 1-0 victory against Notts County as he put his faith in younger players, and he sticks with the same squad tonight.

And the Reds' boss said the players will be buoyed by the weekend success which ended a run of seven games without a win.

"I hope the young players can handle this game," said Little today. "They are enthusiastic and good enough to give us a chance.

"It will be interesting to see how they do, but no-one is putting any pressure on them. They know we are in a precarious position
"But winning on Saturday was a great tonic for the younger players and tonic for the club.

"They know the situation and will be trying their best.

"They have just been asked to go out there and show what they can do in the last four games."

Only one of the 11 players brought in by Little since he took over as manager in November, goalkeeper Gavin Ward, started in the victory against Notts County.

And Little feels he is justified in keeping faith with the same group of players, although he knows tonight's match at promotion chasing Hereford will be a tough test.

"Hereford have had an outstanding season and it will be a very difficult game for us," said Little.

"But we got a good result on Saturday which has lifted those who played.
"This will be a different test for them – we are away against a quality side.

"I feel it is the right thing to keep the same group together. Other players missing out are a bit down but that is understandable.

"I brought players in short term, and I needed to freshen it up.

"I am not sure how the young players would have done six months ago playing regularly.

"I am planning for the future but genuinely trying to stay in the Football League, and this we feel is the best chance."

Wrexham will be bidding to win two consecutive games for the first time this season.

"It would be nice to win two in a row because that is a disappointing statistic," added Little.

"The only way we can change that stat is by winning and we will be trying to do that."

Midfielder Matty Done has recovered from a thigh problem sustained at the weekend while on-loan Robbie Garrett is added to the squad.

WREXHAM (from): Ward, Pejic, Steve Evans, Mike Williams, Taylor, Baynes, Fleming, Mackin, Done, Marc Williams, Roberts, Gareth Evans, Murtagh, Danny WIlliams, Proctor, Garrett, Michael Jones.

- Wrexham reserves' hopes of finishing second in the Pontin's League West division were dealt a blow last night when they lost 3-0 against Manchester City at Buckley Town's Globe Way.

The two sides now meet at Hyde tomorrow and Wrexham need to win to have any chance of finishing in the runners-up spot behind champions Morecambe.
