Don't get carried away warns Little

BRIAN LITTLE is keeping his feet firmly on the ground after seeing Wrexham end their pre-season on a high note.
Wrexham wrapped up their build-up to the new Blue Square Premier season with an emphatic 6-0 victory at Stafford Rangers.

That meant that Wrexham lost just one summer friendly against The New Saints having emerged unbeaten from encounters with three Football League opponents.

But Reds' boss Little was not getting carried away ahead of Saturday's opening day clash against Stevenage Borough at The Racecourse.

"We have tried very hard to keep a lid on things so far this pre-season which sounds strange," said Little today.

"We had such a tough time last season and yet we have had what has been a pretty good pre-season all in all.

"I am a little bit wary and trying to keep a little bit quiet, not get too carried away.

"I have been in football such a long time and I have had really average pre-seasons and started really well in the league, and I have had great pre-seasons and not had such a good start.

"At the moment we don't know what next week will bring but we are ready for it, that is the most important thing.

"We have got some new faces in there which has given everybody a lift, and everybody has responded to that. Some of them are not in the side and it is up to them to dig in.

"We hope we can now start to take the club forward and we will try very hard to do that."

Little is happy with preparations for the new season but accepts there will be low points during the next nine months.

"We are going to have some disappointments, that is a certainty.

Anybody who thinks we aren't is kidding themselves," said Little.

"When we have them disappointments that is when we find out a lot about each other.

"We have had six weeks together and so far we have not had any set-backs as yet.

"We are looking forward to next week and hopefully we start with a good result."

At Stafford, Little named what is likely to be his starting eleven for the visit of Stevenage, with a further seven players making second half substitute appearances.

Michael Proctor and Shaun Pejic were among the players not included in the squad but Little said every member of his squad had a part to play this season.

"We have got a big month and we need all the players we have got.

"There are five players who have not been in the group today but even they are important to me," said Little.

"One or two people have got themselves a jump start into the team and they are there to be shot at."

Wrexham led 2-0 at the break thanks to a double from summer signing Shaun Whalley who added to last weeks goal against Colwyn Bay.

Another new recruit, Jefferson Louis, then added a brace before substitutes Silvio Spann and Steve Evans rounded off the scoring.

And Little was delighted to see strike duo Whalley and Louis on target.

"They have been asked to play in some tough games lately," added Little. "We have played against Championship and League One sides and they haven't scored goals.

"But the last two weekends we have played some non-league football they have looked very sharp and looked as if they can score goals.

"We won the game comfortably and possibly could have scored some more.

"It was a good performance, very solid, and we scored a few goals which people have been asking us about."
