MATTY DONE today insisted he made the right decision to stay at Wrexham.
The pacy 19-year-old winger was wanted by League Two high-fliers Hereford United in January and even held talks with Bulls manager Graham Turner.
But after speaking to Wrexham boss Brian Little, Done decided to stay at The Racecourse.
And although Done had not featured since the middle of December until Saturday when he made a second half substitute appearance in the 2-1 victory against Bury, he said the possible transfer was now in the past.
"Since I turned down the move it has not crossed my mind," said Done. "People have said that because I have not been playing, was it the right decision – but I wanted to stay.
"I just want to try and do my bit to keep Wrexham in the Football League.
"Hopefully I stay in the squad now."
Done was delighted to be named in the squad at the weekend and hopes to get regular first team football in Wrexham's 11 remaining games.
"I was glad to be back in the squad and back in the frame," said Done.
"It has been a frustrating few months not being involved but I have kept my head down and worked hard.
"When I have played for the reserves I have done well so I just kept on trying to get back in.
"Saturday was the start for me after not being involved for three months.
"I will push on from that and hopefully I feature between now and the end of the season, and help us stay up."
Done, who made a number of telling runs against Bury, was pleased that Wrexham picked up a welcome three points.
"The gaffer said on Friday we were going back to a 4-4-2 system and I was in his plans," said Done.
"I thought we did well with that formation. We kept it tight at the back and were a threat going forward.
"It was a bit scrappy when I first came on but once we got the ball down and passed it around, I thought we did well.
"We were a threat and got the winning goal.
"It was massive to win. We have not been on a bad run recently and have only lost to Peterborough United and Wycombe Wanderers."
Wrexham are now preparing for an important double header over the Bank Holiday weekend.
They make the trip to Brentford on Saturday and then host Dagenham and Redbridge at The Racecourse on Monday.
And Done spoke of the magnitude of both fixtures.
"It was a big three points against Bury and it has given us something to build on," added Done. "We have got two games in three days and we go into those matches with confidence.
"Brentford have only won once in their last seven matches and we have got to look to play on that.
"The way we have been playing, we can win there.
"The Dagenham game would have been massive but when you look at the table, they look as though they have got enough points now in the last few weeks.
"But it is still big for us, and every home game is vital.
"There are not many home matches remaining. All the games in hand are away so the home games are all important, and we need the crowd to get behind us."
- Wrexham Reserves' Pontin's League fixture against Morecambe at Buckley Town's Globe Way, originally scheduled for last night, has been delayed until tomorrow evening.
