DREWE BROUGHTON, who was Milton Keynes Dons' matchwinner to send them to Wembley last night, could be back playing for Wrexham tonight.

Striker Drewe Broughton is set to play a third match in four days when Wrexham entertain Peterborough United at The Racecourse (7.45pm).

The much-travelled Broughton returned to parent club MK Dons after his one month loan spell at Wrexham expired following Saturday's 0-0 home draw with Grimsby.

And the 29-year-old then made a late substitute appearance in the Dons' Johnstone's Paint Trophy Southern Final victory over Swansea City last night, and went on to score the winning penalty after the tie went to a shoot-out.

But Dons' boss Paul Ince is expected to allow Broughton to return to The Racecourse for another month's loan, and the striker could feature against Peterborough tonight if the relevant paperwork is completed.

"I'm hoping to re-sign Drewe and we will get an answer in the run-up to the game," said manager Brian Little. "If Drewe comes back he will be involved."

Midfielder Silvio Spann has been added to the Reds' squad which assembled at Colliers Park earlier today for last minute preparation, and Little expects Carl Tremarco, Mike Williams and Danny Sonner to overcome knocks and passed fit.

"We have decided to change our preparation and will be in early today.

"I just feel it will be good to get everybody together," said Little.

"We needed to do a bit more recovery work and check everybody out.

"There were a couple of knocks from Saturday but nothing serious.

"I have got a couple of decisions to make. When you don't win, you think 'do I do something different?' I am just waiting to resolve a few issues."

Little stressed the formula for Wrexham retaining their place in the Football League is based on a sound defensive record, and they go into tonight's match on the back of a six game unbeaten run, having kept three consecutive clean sheets.

Delighted not to have leaked a goal in 308 minutes, Little is hoping Wrexham can create more chances than they did in Saturday's goal-less draw against Grimsby.

"If you are not going to concede, you have always got a chance of winning," said Little today. "We will try very hard to keep that going.

"I hope that is the foundation to staying in the Football League, though I would like us to create a few more chances at the other end.

"The defensive side is very pleasing and we hope to continue down the road of making it difficult for teams to score."

With few scoring opportunities created against Grimsby as both sides cancelled each other out, Little predicted more closely fought matches before the end of the campaign.

"In tight games it is all about taking that one chance," said Little. "That is often the difference between things.

"There will be more tight games before the end of the season.

"Being two or three nil up is great but that is not often the case. When it is tight you have to have the right mentality, be strong and keep believing.

"If you do that you have got a chance of coming out on top."

Wrexham's current unbeaten run includes a goalless draw at Peterborough whose manager Darren Ferguson criticised Wrexham's style of play.

But Little said he has no problem with Ferguson's comments and that his priorities lie elsewhere.

"It's not an issue to me. There are too many other things going on," said Little.

"My only aim is to keep us in the Football League and that's what I am focused on.

"I have no intention being drawn into something that takes me away from that. It is not a problem to me."

And Little insisted that Wrexham will be going all out for victory on The Racecourse pitch which was heavily sanded at the weekend, making conditions difficult.

"It is another big test for us and we are trying to win the game," added Little.

"It was a hard game physically for us on Saturday, and the pitch was the very tiring.

"We have to live with that until it dries out thoroughly, there is no point being negative."
