Ex-Manchester City winger could sign for Wrexham FC

GEOFF MOSS is hoping Wrexham FC's ambitious attempt to sign former Premiership player Kiki Musampa on a short term deal is successful.
Former Dutch under 21 international left winger Musampa has played at the highest level in various European leagues and spent one-and-a-half seasons on loan at Manchester City between 2005 and 2006 where he made 41 Premiership appearances, scoring three goals.
Free agent Musampa is hoping for earn a contract at a Premiership or Championship club, and has called on new Wrexham manager Dean Saunders – currently assisting Wales boss John Toshack – for help.
Chairman Moss is hoping that Musampa, in the crowd when Wrexham beat York City 3-1 at The Racecourse last Tuesday, will join on a short-term contract in a bid to attract interest from other clubs as well as help the Reds in their push for promotion from the Blue Square Premier.
And Moss is still hopeful the 31-year-old will agree to join: "There is truth in it but it would only be a short-term thing," said Moss today. "Kiki is out of contract and trying to find a club.
"It is with a view to Dean helping Kiki find a Premiership or Championship club and to help us get a few more points on the board.
"Dean was approached by a friend of Kiki's to see if he could get him fixed up. And Dean said 'come and play for me for about six games, and I will try and get you fixed up'.
"I don't want to excite fans too much but it wouldn't be until the end of the season. It is purely short-term, not a loan because Kiki is not in contract.
"We intend on Kiki coming in for about half-a-dozen games to put himself in the shop window. We are looking to improve and strengthen the team and there is a short- term goal to get points on the board and make sure we are in the mix at Christmas.
"And we can push on again when the transfer window opens in January as Dean will be able to add further.
"Talks are on-going between Dean and Kiki's brother Jean. I would say it is 50-50."
Musampa, who has a good eye for goal, started his career at Ajax where he progressed through the ranks.
He went on to play for Bordeaux, Malaga and Atletico Madrid before leaving the Spanish giants for a loan spell with Manchester City in January 2005, completing his stint with them at the end of the following season.
Spells at Trabzonspor, AZ Alkmaar and FC Seoul have followed, but Musampa had his contract at the Korean club terminated by mutual consent in June.
With Musampa eager to sign for a Premiership or Championship club, Moss hopes impressive performances in a Wrexham shirt will help both parties.
"I don't want fans thinking it is too expensive, it is well within our reach," said Moss.
"Kiki has got experience and it would put himself in the shop window, on the basis Dean will try and get him fixed up.
"It is then up to him. If he is brilliant for us, he will get the attention of clubs and Dean will say 'sign him'."
Moss recently failed in a bid to bring in Robbie Savage on loan from Derby County as player-coach, with the midfielder instead joining Brighton and Hove Albion for a temporary spell at the wishes of his parent club.
But Moss said the bid to bring in Savange and Musampa illustrated just how ambitious Wrexham are: "We are ambitious.and are trying things," said Moss.
"And Robbie Savage nearly happened."
"Whether Kiki comes to anything we will have to see. But we are trying things and as Dean is such a high profile individual, who knows."
Saunders has already brought in midfielder Joe Allen on a one-month loan deal from Swansea CIty and having agreed terms with centre-back Ashley Westwood, is just waiting for the trialist, who has been training with the Reds for a week, to put pen to paper.
With other potential targets being sounded out by Saunders, Moss couldn't help admire the contacts that the former Wales interantional striker has built up.
"Dean is giving the players here their chance," said Moss. "But he is rooting around everywhere.
"Kiki is a big name, but Dean has got so many contacts. He has dialogue with many managers."
With a first team squad of nearly 30 players, Moss admitted it was inevitable players will leave The Racecourse.
Midfielder Tom Taylor, Brian Little's last signing when he signed a short-term deal just before September's transfer window closed, has already been told he is free to find another club.
And Moss said some players will be made available for loan moves to balance the books: "Dean has been very honest with Tom as he has with all his players," added Moss.
"He doesn't see Tom getting in the team and has said he can go elsewhere.
"Some players will fall by the wayside and go out on loan. We need to get a few out. We don't have a bottomless pit and have to be sensible.
"Dean is a wheeler-dealer and acts like it is his own money!"
Would this be a good move for Wrexham FC?
