MARTIN FOYLE admitted he was delighted to remain part of Brian Little's backroom staff at Wrexham.
The former Port Vale manager has signed a new two-year deal at The Racecourse and will continue working as first team coach.

And with the uncertainty over his position following Wrexham's relegation to the Blue Square Premier, Foyle was pleased to be kept on.

"My contract ran out the last game of the season and the gaffer was superb with me," said Foyle today.

"He said that nothing was guaranteed so to go and look for other jobs.
"I understand the uncertainty because going down is a massive step. But you have to look at the bigger picture.

"I have managed, know the game. I can offer a different insight with different ideas.

"I was offered a contract and was delighted to accept.

"This is a job that needs to be completed and as a coach I can't wait to get into it."

Foyle was brought in as coach by Little during the January transfer window when the Reds' boss decided to relieve Steve Weaver of his duties.

Having had a few months out of the game when his three-and-a-half-year reign as manager of Port Vale came to an end, Foyle was pleased to link up with Little and now hopes Wrexham can mount a promotion challenge next term.

"I had two or three months out of the game and hated every minute," said Foyle. "I was pleased to come in and work on the coaching side.

"They are good people to work with and I have a good working
relationship with Brian Little, but I don't want to be comfortable. We have to be ruthless and there is a big shake up that the club needs.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed myself, though there has been the doom and gloom of going down.

"We want to clear the decks and get people in with hunger. Hopefully we can get off to a good start and do well."

Little's decision to rebuild the Wrexham squad is under way with 22 players told they have no future at The Racecourse.

The 11 players left under contract has given a young feel to the club and Foyle is looking forward to working with the group, but he knows the Blue Square Premier will be a competitive division.

"I have had meetings with the younger players and I have put the ball in their court to meet me half way," said Foyle.

"I will concentrate on the coaching and spend as much time as needed with the youngsters.

"I had my time – now this is their time and I hope they have the same enthusiasm. They seem keen which is great.

"There is some great talent but we are going into a hard league where some teams are better than League Two sides."

With the search for new signings on-going, Foyle said the club is now encountering a change to the time span of players' contracts.

The norm in the Football League is for players' deals to run from the end of June/beginning of July – the start of pre-season.

But Foyle has come across free agent players whose contracts at their previous club expired as soon as the season finished.

And that would provide the club with more expenditure, given that players who have been released are still on the pay-roll for another month or so.

"We have found that some clubs take a different approach to contracts and some players' contracts finished as soon as the season finished," said Foyle.

"If you were to sign someone now you would also have to take on their wages straight away, when you are still paying the rest of the players.

You would have to fund their contracts as soon as they join.
"You have to consider the finances from the club's point of view."
