DEAN SAUNDERS was today the talk of the town but Wrexham FC owner Geoff Moss said it was highly unlikely he would be coming in as the club's new manager.
Speculation has grown that Dean Saunders, one of Wales boss John Toshack's assistants, was being lined up to succeed Brian Little after he spent yesterday watching a full-scale practice match at The Racecourse involving every fit member of Wrexham's first team squad.

Roy Evans, another member of Toshack's backroom team, and club president and former Wrexham manager Arfon Griffiths were also present.

And although Moss admitted Saunders would be the ideal candidate, he accepted that the former Wales international is employed elsewhere.

"Every fit player was involved as we are trying to pull everyone together," said Moss today.

"Some friends of mine, including the Wales contingent and Arfon, watched the game so I had a second, third and fourth opinion, and we chatted about the players afterwards. I wanted their opinions.

"Dean has got a job. He is very committed to his Wales role and also does media work. I would love it, that would be a beauty, but Dean has got a job."

Moss stressed that he would take his time before appointing Wrexham's fourth manager in less than two years, with first team coach Martin Foyle and Little's assistant Brian Carey taking charge of team affairs for Saturday's trip to Forest Green.

And Moss admitted he has had a steady stream of applicants.

"I have not even looked at the CV's yet. We had 12 yesterday but by the end of the week it could be up to 40," added Moss.

Foyle, who took over the reigns with Carey for Saturday's 1-1 draw against Torquay United, insists the duo are unsure about where their futures lie after the weekend trip to Forest Green.

"It is a case of getting on with what you are doing," said Foyle.

"Geoff was pleased with the weekend and it is important we get the stability right, especially for the players, and we are looking forward to Forest Green on Saturday. That is really it.

"The chairman has got one or two ideas and we need to sit down again and see what they are. He wants to have a little look, have time to assess the whole situation and what is needed.

"I suppose that is why he has probably called in a lot of friends to have a look at the whole set-up.

"I would like to know what their opinions are of everything and the players as well.

"The chairman is probably a bit worried whether he feels he's made one or two mistakes somewhere along the line and probably feels he needs a bit of help.

"But sometimes too many cooks spoil the broth, don't they?"
