GEOFF MOSS has not yet decided whether he will bring in a new manager to Wrexham FC or promote from within.
Wrexham are looking for their fourth manager in less than two years after Brian Little left the club in the run up to Saturday's 1-1 draw against Torquay United at The Racecourse.

Brian Little left Wrexham FC by mutual consent following a meeting with chairman Geoff Moss on Friday.

Pressure was mounting on Little - handed a two-year contract at the end of last season - after a run of four defeats in five matches left Wrexham in the bottom half of the Blue Square Premier table.

But the timing of Little's departure was strange, with the players first informed just two hours before kick-off on Saturday.

First team coaches Martin Foyle and Brian Carey were in charge of team affairs for the visit of Torquay where Wrexham came from a goal behind to earn a point.

The duo will oversee training this week before the board makes a further announcement on Little's replacement.

"It is not a financial burden on the club in any way if people are concerned about that," said Moss about Little's departure.

"And in the meantime I have asked Brian and Martin to look after things until we sit down and take stock, and find out where we go from here on in.

"Everybody will speculate all sorts of names of managers but at this present moment we don't have any - not one.

"This only happened late on Friday afternoon, which is not the most ideal time.

"Nobody was told at all. The players were first to be told when they reported at 12.45pm on Saturday.

"All we had time for was for Brian and Martin to look after things for the Torquay game, take training on Monday and then we will have a chat this week and see where we go from here."

Moss has not ruled out installing former Port Vale boss Foyle as manager on a permanent basis if Wrexham string a decent run of results together.

But whoever does take charge, Moss, who has been unhappy with Wrexham's long ball style of play this season, wants to see the Reds heading in the right direction on the pitch.

"I guess if we win our next six games on the trot things might be different but we will consider all options," said Moss.

"I just want this club to go forward. I want to play good football and I want to be top of the league. I won't rest until that happens.

"I wasn't happy with the start we have made, and mid-table wasn't acceptable to Brian either. Don't think he didn't want to be top of the table because he did.

"We are making really good progress in many areas off the field, now we have got to do it on the field. They do go hand in hand. You sell more shirts when you do well on the pitch - it has to come on the pitch.

"Like any business we said we would look at it after 12 games, review it again after Christmas and see where we go from there.

"I am hoping by Christmas we are going in the direction that all fans want."

Little, brought in as manager last November, was unable to save Wrexham from relegation, ending the club's 87 year membership of the Football League.

But Moss thanked Little for his efforts, and was unhappy with some of the abuse the former Aston Villa and Leicester City boss endured from some supporters.

"We thank Brian very much for what he has done for the football club," added Moss.

"Brian worked very hard, put the hours in and did his best. We just did not get where we want to be. Who knows if we do get where we want to be, but we will be trying. That's all the supporters need to know.

"We were also very unhappy at some of the abuse Brian suffered which is not necessary.

"The man is only trying to do a job and trying to do his best. We are all fans and we want to be top of the league so it was agreed very friendly and very positive.

"We had our meeting before Monday when I said we were going to have it and felt it was just best to go our different ways."
