JEFF WHITLEY admitted Wrexham's clash against Grimsby had been a hard fought encounter.
Back in action after a fortnight's inactivity because of postponed matches, Wrexham ground out a 0-0 draw against at The Racecourse.

Few scoring chances were created and midfielder Whitley said the sides had cancelled each other out.

"It was a tough game for us," said Whitley. "We would have liked to have played a bit more football than was played but it was a difficult match and we had to make sure we did not get frustrated.

"We cancelled each other out and there were not many shots in the game.

"We went for it at the end and Michael Proctor was unlucky with his effort.

"I thought we started well, even though we have not had a game for two weeks.

"We are a bit disappointed with the result but we have to look at is as a good point.

"We were not playing for a draw. We are not going into any game looking for a draw, we go into games wanting to win them.

"We put all the strikers on to try and win."

Whitley, who has joined Wrexham on non-contract terms until the end of the season following a trial with the Reds last month, was handed his first start since he was recruited by manager Brian Little.

And the former Northern Ireland international was pleased to be handed a starting role in place of the injured Neil Roberts.

"I was delighted to start and I was glad to get 65 minutes under my belt," added Whitley. "That gives me time to recover and I am now looking forward to tomorrow's game against Peterborough.

"I have been out for 10 months and I was really looking forward to the Grimsby match.

"The fitter and stronger I get, you will see more of myself."
