JEFFERSON LOUIS hopes his height will give him an advantage over his fellow strikers when Brian Little decides on the starting line-up that will kick-off Wrexham's season.
Wrexham face Conference North outfit Stafford Rangers at Marston Road tomorrow (3pm) in the final pre-season friendly, seven days before the Reds' opening Blue Square Premier fixture against Stevenage Borough.

Little currently has a 26-man squad at his disposal when everybody is fit and there is healthy competition in every position.

But summer signing Louis hopes his 6ft 2in frame will help earn him a starting place.

"I am desperate to play against Stevenage and I can't wait for it," said Louis today. "It is the first league game and you want to be involved.

"Everybody wants to play and there is good competition for places in each area.

"Hopefully, I have got an advantage in the strikers position because I am a big man.

"I am a different kind of striker to the others, although we have all got different aspects to bring to the team.

"I can also run behind players, hold the ball up and retain it for the team, and head.

"I am not just a big man who stands still, I can do everything else as I have shown, but hopefully I can use my height to my advantage."

Louis is eager to perform well against Stafford tomorrow but the frontman is wary about trying to over impress Reds' boss Little.

"I will do what I can against Stafford and then the final decision for Stevenage is down to the gaffer," said Louis.

"I don't think you can go out thinking that you have got to impress.

"Then you start to complicate your game. You just have to play your own game."

Louis is likely to have recovered from an ankle injury sustained in training earlier this week to face Stafford tomorrow.

There was a spring in Louis's step at Colliers Park yesterday as he feared the injury would have ruled him out for longer.

"I just blocked a shot from Shaun Whalley and twisted my ankle a bit," said Louis. "It hurt and put me on a right downer because I thought I would be out for a long time.

"But Mel Pejic told me not to worry and to wait a few days for it to settle down.

"And I am so relieved that it is okay."

Louis lined up in attack with Shaun Whalley in last week's 2-0 victory at Colwyn Bay.

Whalley, who scored the second goal, has returned to action after an ankle injury, while another frontman, Simon Brown, is available tomorrow having missed the last three friendlies with a thigh strain.

Michael Proctor and Marc Williams make up the strikers available to Little and Louis said he was happy with the way the partnership worked with Whalley last weekend.

"It was the first time we have played together and I thought we hit it off okay, and obviously Wrexham won," added Louis.

"But Shaun stole the ball off me after I did all the work and set him for the goal! I have no complaints though, we linked up well."

The players will be back in action on Sunday as the club hold their Family Open Day.

Fans will be able to watch the players training between 12-1pm and get their autographs and pictures with the squad.

The day starts at 11am and is free for all to attend.
