Louis targeting goals in Wrexham promotion bid

JEFFERSON LOUIS is backing himself to score goals for new club Wrexham.
Striker Louis became manager Brian Little's third new signing of the summer by penning a two-year deal following his release by Mansfield Town who were relegated along with the Reds from the Football League last season.
The much travelled Louis – aged 29 – has played for 17 teams in his career, mostly at non-league level, although he has played in the Football League with Oxford United and Bristol Rovers, as well as Mansfield.
And Louis is eager to play his part by finding the back of the net to help Wrexham win promotion from the Blue Square Premier next season.
"I don't set myself targets. I will just take each game as it comes," said Louis.
"I just want to think about the team and getting promotion – but I will score goals for Wrexham.
"I want to make an impact and get this team promoted.
"This is too big a club to be in the Conference and I want to help us bounce back.
"I have plenty of experience of football at this level and I want to bring something to the table for the lads to help the team get back into the League.
"This is a little further away from home than I have been before, but my missus will becoming down with me and I want to settle in quick. I want to get on with the games, score some goals and get the fans calling my name – that's what counts."
Louis will link up with former Mansfield team-mate and fellow striker Simon Brown who joined Wrexham last week.
And Louis is confident Wrexham can push for promotion and he is buoyed by the exploits of Carlisle United who have won two promotions since dropping out of the Football League in 2004, and reached the League One play-offs last term.
"It is good for me and Simon," said Louis.
"We have played together and know each other's game, although we did not play much at the end of last season as he was out of favour.
"Mansfield went down but we are both now looking to get promotion with Wrexham.
"It does not matter how we do it. If we don't get automatic promotion, then it would have to be through the play-offs.
"I want to bounce straight back up with Wrexham and promotion has to be the aim. Carlisle did it straight away through the play-offs and just look at them now.
"They lost in the League One play-offs last season so we have to try and do what they've done."
Louis, who joined Mansfield in January this year from Weymouth, went on to score four goals in 14 league starts for the Stags who failed to avoid the drop last term.
With a number of other clubs interested in him, Louis jumped at the chance of joining Wrexham.
"I had other offers, some in the Football League and some this division, but I weighed up my options and Wrexham were the best," added Louis.
"Wrexham are a big club with plenty of history, and they have got everything going for them.
"Just look at this place, this is not a Conference team and if we have the fans behind us then I'm sure we can improve things. We have to turn up and give those performances which make sure we are challenging.
"The manager is building a new team and I want to be part of it.
"He is a proven manager and this is an exciting move for me.
"I have come here to knuckle down and kick on with my career. I am really looking forward to the new season."
Louis added: "I was with Weymouth for the first half of last season and had a good time there, but got a call from Mansfield in January and decided to join them. I tried my hardest to get them out of the position they were in, scored a few goals, but couldn't do everything.
"The fans certainly liked me there, because they could see that I was willing to give 100 per cent on the pitch.
"Now though Wrexham is my new team and I'm looking forward to moving on."
