MICHAEL PROCTOR today admitted that Wrexham's failure to claim back-to-back wins for nearly 18 months was totally unacceptable.
Wrexham go into tomorrow's clash against Grays Athletic at The Recreation Ground (3pm) on the back of a 3-2 victory against Ebbsfleet United, a result which leaves the eighth placed Reds three points away from the play-offs, and a further two off top spot currently held by Crawley Town.

The last time Wrexham clinched a second successive win was on April 24, 2007, when Proctor – then on loan from Hartlepool – scored the only goal as the Reds triumphed 1-0 at Shrewsbury Town's old Gay Meadow ground during their first survival battle to stay in the Football League.

And the striker insisted that it was about time that unenviable record was brought to an end.

"It was a good three points and we are looking to push on from that now," said Proctor today. "It has been a while since we won two in a row and that is not great. We have got to get rid of that record and then build on it – then go for three wins.

"There are lots of games coming up and if we start picking up wins, and get a bit of momentum, we will find ourselves in a better position."

The transfer-listed Proctor – although yet to start this season – has found himself back in the squad in recent weeks, making substitute appearances in the last three matches.

Proctor replaced the concussed Neil Taylor for the entire second half against Ebbsfleet, and could feature in attack tomorrow if leading scorer Jefferson Louis fails to overcome a hamstring problem.

Wherever he may be asked to play, Proctor is just delighted to be back in contention: "I am pleased to be back involved with the squad first and foremost, but also happy to get 45 minutes under my belt against Ebbsfleet, he said.

"I will try and push on from that.

"I don't mind wherever I play. I've played on the left and right before and don't mind it, I'm just happy to be involved.

"I am not sure how bad Jeff is but he has been doing well for us so we'll have to see what happens.

"Whether or not I start, or if I am on the bench, I will give my all.

"I've been out of the squad for a while so I am just glad to be back in.

"Everyone wants to play but it is a big squad and there is a lot of competition for places."

And Proctor, leading scorer with 12 league and cup goals last term, would love to find the back of the net tomorrow: "It would be nice to score my first goal," he added. "Wherever I play on the pitch, I would try and do that.

"I got a few last season and want to get off the mark as soon as possible."

Manager Brian Little praised Proctor's second half contribution last week and he also has another striker, Marc Williams, who scored both goals in a behind closed doors 3-2 defeat against Chester City in midweek, champing at the bit.

"Michael did his job well," said Little. "There are people asking why he played on the left wing, but someone was injured and why make two changes when you can make one.

"I have no complaints about Michael, and Marc has done nothing but score goals since pre-season and has to be complimented on that.

"Simon Brown and Shaun Whalley finished up front together so I have got options and alternatives."

Seven-goal Louis has not trained all week, although he did some work with physio Mel Pejic yesterday.

But the versatile Nat Brown, who has made only three starts this term because of a recurring groin strain, did train with his team-mates and could make the overnight trip to Grays.

And Little, who saw Brown limp out of his last comeback at Salisbury after just eight minutes, will leave it late before naming his team and has not ruled out Louis winning his fitness battle.

"Hopefully that won't be the case again for Nat, and he has had two weeks of rehabilitation with lots of running," said Little.

"It is one step at a time and we will see if there is any reaction, but it is good to have him back in the group.

"The last thing you want with a hamstring is to push Jeff so he ends up being out for four or five weeks so we will see how he reacts to what he did yesterday.

"It will be a late team selection. I try to do it the day before in an ideal world but there are times you can't pick the team early."
