Harvey, who joined Wrexham on loan from Bristol City during the 1987-88 season and played six games under Dixie McNeil, has worked wonders on a small budget at The New Lawn.
And after guiding Forest Green to a highly respectful eighth place finish
last term in the Blue Square Premier, ten points away from the play-offs, Rovers got their current campaign off to a flying start.
After an opening draw against newly promoted Kettering, Forest Green were beaten 2-1 at home by Salisbury in their second outing.
But Forest Green then experienced a fantatsic turnaround as they won four games in a row by the end of the month.
Crawley Town (1-0), Woking (1-0), Weymouth (4-1) and Histon (1-0) were all accounted for in an impressive sequence of results that propelled them into top spot in the table.
Harvey's efforts were also recognised as he was named Blue Square Premier manager of the month for August.
But it hasn't exactly gone to plan since then as Forest Green endured a nightmare September without a single victory in six matches, picking up just one point from a 0-0 draw at Northwich Victoria.
Prior to the Northwich stalemate, Forest Green were beaten by Eastbourne Borough (1-0) and Ebbsfleet United (4-1), and then lost to Stevenage Borough (3-0), Torquay United (2-1) and Burton Albion (4-2).
And that means Forest Green go into tomorrow's match against Wrexham at The New Lawn on the back of their worst run of the season after experiencing defeat in the last three outings.
That six games winless run has seen Forest Green drop down the table, and they now find themselves in 17th position, just three points above the relegation zone.
Harvey has not been helped by a growing injury list which meant he was only able to name four substitutes against Burton last weekend, and two of them, Alex Lawless and James Simpson, were carrying knocks.
Not blessed with the biggest squad because of financial restraints, Harvey was without seven players, including midfielder Lee Fowler who was completing a three-match ban.
And he has also lost the services of player/assistant manager Jamie Pitman who has ended his playing career and left the club to join Hereford United as physiotherapist.
The 32-year-old joined Rovers from Hereford in 2006 and had previously played for Swindon, Yeovil and Woking.
But despite the club's poor run, Harvey remains upbeat: "Three, four weeks ago we were top of the league, we'd had a great start and we were looking super," he said.
"We've had a few injuries and a few bad results, but you don't become a bad team overnight.
"We can do better and the results have been poor but it's a case of getting back in there and working."
Forest Green looked like they were on course to end their poor run at Burton last weekend.
The visitors were ahead at half-time through Darren Jones but Burton staged an excellent second half comeback to lead 3-1, and although Andrew Managan pulled one back for Forest Green with a late effort, Burton scored a fourth in injury time to settle matters.
Harvey hopes to welcome back some of his injured players for the visit of Wrexham tomorrow.
Ryan Robinson will line up in goal while right-back Chris Thomas is in line to return to the defence after a knee injury alongside Darren Jones, Mark Preece and Curtis McDonald.
Alex Lawless, not fully fit and only on the bench last week, could return in a new-look midfield alongside Lee Fowler, who has now completed a suspension; Simon Clist, hoping to win his fitness battle, and Jonathan Smith.
Leading scorer Adriano Rigoglioso, with three goals to his name this term, should switch from midfield into a preferred attacking role alongside either Michael Symonds or Andrew Managan.
Another striker, Kai Mohamed, who made his mark for Carmarthen Town in the 2006–07 season was on trial at Wrexham in the 2007 close season but despite the Reds' interest, they missed out on the frontman and he signed for Swindon Town.
After being released by the League One outfit in the summer, Mohamed joined Forest Green as Harvey aimed to fill the gap left by the loss of last season's prolific strike pairing.
Stuart Fleetwood scored 28 league goals and after joining Charlton Athletic is currently on loan at Cheltenham, while Mark Beesley, who weighed in with ten goals, signed for Cambridge United.
