KIDDERMINSTER HARRIERS can put their lofty position in the Blue Square Premier table down to their excellent home form.
The highflying Harriers are currently in fifth spot going into tomorrow's clash against Wrexham at Aggborough – just four points behind leaders Torquay United but with a game in hand.

And it is their results at Aggborough that have put Kidderminster in such a strong position.

Mark Yates' side boast the best home record in the division having won seven of their nine league matches in front of their own fans, drawing one and losing the other.

Cambridge have also won seven matches at their Abbey Stadium but the Us have lost a game more than Kidderminster.

Altrincham, Rushden & Diamonds, Torquay United, Oxford United, York City, Ebbsfleet and Grays Athletic have all left Aggborough pointless with Harriers conceding just two goals in those seven wins.

Lewes actually drew 1-1 at Kidderminster on the opening day of the season while the only team to win at Aggborough so far is Barrow who triumphed 1-0 on October 4.

A healthy return of 16 goals scored and just four conceded in nine home league matches is evidence that the Harriers should be regarded as serious challengers for promotion after finishing in a mid-table 13th position last season.

Kidderminster are also showing signs of improvement in their away form, and after losing three of their opening four matches on their travels, taking just one point in the process, they have enjoyed a turnaround in fortunes in their last five outings.

Yates has steered his side to three wins, a draw and just one defeat in that sequence, with the latest of those away victories coming last Saturday when they triumphed 1-0 at Rushden & Diamonds.

A penalty from Justin Richards – his 12th goal of the season – was enough to give Harriers all three points, and Yates praised the character of the leading scorer for not letting a hatfull of earlier missed chances affect his confidence.

The goal earned Harriers their first Blue Square Premier double of the season and Yates said: "It shows the character that Justin's got. He'd missed a couple of chances that he would back himself to put away but scored the penalty.

"I didn't see the penalty but I was told that he slotted it in well.

"He's full of confidence as he should be, and as they all are.

"They're playing with confidence and have a great togetherness, and I think that showed in the second half."

Yates was delighted to see his side hold on for victory having taken the lead from the spot three minutes from the break.

"I think, particularly in the first half, we were excellent," said Yates.

"We knew we'd have to defend and we knew we'd have to put heads in the way. They're a big strong side.

"I thought we played some good football and were unlucky not to be out of sight by half-time. We needed to be that little bit more ruthless, but I thought we were well worth the win again today."

Yates added: "I don't really care what people are talking about – as long as we know what we are capable of achieving in the camp.

"The supporters were magnificent today – they'll keep backing us and we've got to keep producing for them.

"We are showing quality, but we've shown resolve, character, strength and determination to get over the line and get three points."

Yates has named a settled side all season, only making the odd change to the line-up because of injuries and suspension.

And if he decides to stick with the side that beat Rushden last weekend, it will be the third game in a row that Kidderminster are unchanged.

Adam Bartlett will line up in goal with a back four comprising of Keith Lowe, Martin Riley, Mark Creighton and the on-loan Lee Baker who has come in from West Brom.

Martin Brittain, Andy Ferrell, Russell Penn and Brian Smikle will form the four-man midfield with Matthew Barnes-Homer and leading scorer Richards leading the attack.

Former Wrexham midfielder Dean Bennett, who was an extra-time substitute when the Reds lifted the LDV Vans Trophy in 2005, will again have to be content with a place on the bench.
