WREXHAM'S already slim hopes of avoiding relegation were dealt a further blow after defeat at local rivals Shrewsbury.
It was a bitter defeat for Brian Little's Reds, who fell behind inside 10 minutes when Kevin McIntyre converted Colin Murdock's approach.

That set Shrewsbury on the way to their first win in 16 games, and they doubled their advantage when Darren Moss headed home Marc Tierney's cross on 57 minutes.

Wrexham - who are now nine points adrift of safety with just four games remaining - were punished further on 66 minutes when referee Lee Mason pointed to the spot after Simon Spender was judged to have fouled James Constable.

Constable's penalty was saved by Reds' keeper Gavin Ward, but Constable reacted quickly to convert the rebound.

Wrexham: Ward, Spender, Hope, Bolland, Taylor, Marc Williams (Danny Williams 68), Roberts, Aiston (Hall 65), Done, Proctor, Broughton.
Subs not used: Steve Evans, Mike Williams, Whitley.

More reaction in Monday's Evening Leader.
