ROBBIE SAVAGE wants to come in as player-coach at Wrexham FC.
Chairman Geoff Moss today admitted that talks having been on-going since the deparature of manager Brian Little about bringing former Wales international midfielder Savage in on loan from Derby County.

Although the 33-year-old's reported £25,000 a week wages were not an issue, the bold bid has been scuppered by the Derby board.

And Moss said that Wrexham-born Savage - who has fallen out of favour with manager Paul Jewell after joining Derby from Blackburn Rovers for £1.5 million in January - reiterated his desire to become Wrexham manager when his playing career comes to an end.

"We have had conversations for the last two days about Robbie coming in on loan as player-coach - not as manager," said Moss today.

"Robbie has rung me by the minute wanting to come and everything was agreed.

"Robbie saw Paul Jewell yesterday and he agreed to it, but the chairman of Derby said last night that he won't let him go.

"The lad is gutted. Robbie said that some time in the future he wants to be manager of Wrexham when his playing career finishes, but he is not ready yet.

"But he wanted to come in and work with us now which is very admirable of him. And the great thing is there is no money issue."

Moss has not given up hope of landing Savange, who is from Bradley.

But other clubs are interested, including Brighton, Port Vale and his former club, Crewe Alex.

"I'm not giving up and I don't think it will happen, but Robbie is seeing the chairman again today and you never know."

First team coach Foyle and Brian Carey - assistant to Little - took charge of team affairs for Saturday's 1-1 draw against Torquay at The Racecourse.

The duo, preparing for Saturday's trip to Forest Green Rovers, were holding talks with Moss yesterday and Foyle said it was important to determine how the club's board wish to proceed in the future, and where everybody stood.

"I am still hurting for Brian. Me and Brian Carey are still gutted," said Foyle today.

"I don't think people realised how big a job it was and Brian still needed a bit of time.

"We now need to reorganise as a group and concentrate on Forest Green - we are here for the football after all.

"We are sitting down with Geoff to see how we proceed this week. We need to clarify a few things, and see where we go from here so everyone knows what is happening.

"We need to know where we stand. Someone has the responsibility of picking the team at Forest Greeen which is another big game for us."

Foyle, who was in charge of Port Vale for three-and-a-half-years before being brought in by Little in January, admits he would love to return to management.

But Foyle would not confirm whether he would like to become permanent manager at Wrexham.

"I would go back into management, 100 per cent," said Foyle. "It is important you get the right people around you.

"I had three months out, and ananlysed everything. We were very short staffed at Vale, doing everything ouselves.

"It was not the right thing to do, and the extra work was stressful. We were losing £200,000 a year but turned it round, and we were making a profit.

"I sold eight players for good money and can take a lot of achievement out of that.

"And I worked the loan market well, it was the only way we could survive.

"I enjoyed management and people outside the club said I was doing a good job which was pleasing."

Although Wrexham were unable to avoid relegation last term, Foyle admits he has enjoyed in at The Racecourse.

"I have always been professional and my ability has never been questionned," said Foyle. "I've seen a lot since January but I love it here.

"A few things need to be tweaked but the club has got massive potential.
"From day one I have enjoyed it, and it was a shame we could not stop relegation. It was looking healthy at the start of the season but things have cropped up."

Meanwhile, Kyle Critchell is facing an extended spell on the sidelines.

Critchell damaged ankle ligaments at the end of August in training but has suffered a reaction after stepping up rehabilitation work, and could require further surgery.

In a further blow, Simon Spender is expected to be ruled out of action for around six weeks after dislocating an elbow in the closing moments of Saturday's game.
