WREXHAM FC have failed in their bid to sign Derby midfielder Robbie Savage.
The Reds launched a bid to bring the former Wales international to The Racecourse on loan in a player/coach capacity.
But despite Robbie Savage being keen on a move to his hometown club, Derby County have called off the deal.
Savage had been made available for loan and Wrexham chairman Geoff Moss was interested in bringing the former Wales international to The Racecourse in a player-coach role, and had held talks.
Derby had a change of heart about Savage joining his hometown club on loan, but the 33-year-old said he was ready to link up with the Reds who parted company with manager Brian Little by mutual consent over the weekend.
"I wanted to help Wrexham as they are my hometown club and I did definitely considered it - Geoff knows how passionate I am about Wrexham," said Savage.
"It would have helped me get match fit and helped me on the learning curve for coaching and managing.
"It could have happened and it was a nice gesture for Derby to consider letting me go."
In a statement on the club's website, Wrexham chairman and owner Geoff Moss said he was disappointed at the news.
"It looked likely we would have been able to bring in Robbie on loan, especially with a couple of players out injured at the moment.
"Unfortunately there seems to have been a problem, which has meant the deal will now not go ahead."
