DEAN SAUNDERS today apologised to supporters who witnessed Wrexham's humiliating FA Cup fourth round qualifying replay defeat against Eastwood Town last night.
The Unibond League Premier Division team deserved their 2-0 defeat thanks to goals in either half as Wrexham gave a woeful account of themselves at Coronation Park.

Saunders was appalled at Wrexham's display and he admitted travelling supporters were right to sing 'what a load at rubbish' at his underperforming players as his unbeaten run as Reds boss came to an end.

"It was a disastrous result," said Saunders. "The manner of the performance, I just apologise to supporters really.

"We had something like two shots at goal probably.

"I don't blame the fans. We are on a good run at the moment.

"We won three games and drew the last game and normally when fans are singing what they were singing, you have not won for ten games.

"They were singing it tonight and they were right - I was singing with them."

Saunders could not single out any of his players for any credit after the performance and he paid tribute to Eastwood who played with a lone striker, Ian Holmes, who scored the late second goal.

"We did not have a player out there. They knew what they were in the team for," said Saunders.

"I have given them their jobs and I have asked them in there if they got anywhere near what they were supposed to do.

"Not one player beat a man in 90 minutes or created a chance for a striker.

"Their best player was the centre forward - their one striker.

"There was not anything out there I could be happy with really so we'll plough on."

Saunders slammed his players for not handling the pressure of trailing to a side who ply their trade two divisions below Wrexham.

"We all want to play when we are winning and I have just found out a lot there about the players," said Saunders.

"I learnt some things in the first three games but I have just found out a lot more.

"I have got to do something about it, simple as that.

"Players all want to play for Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. I am not sure some of our players could play for those clubs when you are losing - it is alright when you're winning.

"We have got to take more responsibility out there, and want the ball in pressure situations which all of a sudden we were in tonight.

"We were in a situation where we were playing against a team lower than us in the leagues and we had a chance of getting egg on our face, and it got to the players.

"They couldn't cope with the pressure."

Saunders was unhappy that Wrexham were not capable of breaking down the plucky part-timers.

And after seeing Wrexham crash out of the FA Cup, Saunders said he will bring in new faces ahead of Saturday's Blue Square Premier clash against Lewes at The Racecourse.

"I tried to put another man up there and change things around a little bit, see if we could get a grip of the game in the middle of the pitch," said Saunders.

"But they sat back, they said come on, what have you got? And we didn't have a lot.

"They never even tried to beat us and we did not have enough talent out there to break them down.

"I don't think anybody beat a man all night.

"I have got to do something about it and I will do something about it. I'm not accepting that.

"They have done well so far. I am not sure absolutely slaughtering them is going to do them any good - I think some of them would go under.

"It is disappointing but fortunately in football four days later we have got another big game, and I need the right reaction from the players.

"And I will get some players in by the weekend."

Saunders admitted that after five matches in charge, he is forming opinions on some players.

"With results we have got, just give me a bit more time to look at different people," added Saunders.

"If I'd have got this result in the first game I would have had to do it a bit quicker.

"But I am learning about the players all the time, and there are still some of them who haven't played for me.

"I am learning and I am starting to make my mind up about one or two.
"I have said to them I am going forward and that result will be out of my head by the morning, and I will be thinking about the Lewes game."
