DEAN SAUNDERS described Wrexham's failure to score at Kidderminster Harriers as "unbelievable".
Wrexham's run of five consecutive wins came to an end as Saunders experienced his first league defeat as manager of the Reds who lost 1-0 at Aggborough.

And after dominating the second period, Saunders couldn't believe his side did not convert any of their scoring chances.

"It's flabbergasting really. I was sitting there thinking we were never going to score," said Saunders.

"The goalkeeper's made five or six unbelievable saves and we hit the post three times.

"But Gavin Ward made a penalty save against York at home, and we scored in injury time at Forest Green, so it never went for us today.

"I can't complain about the way they tried to go out and win the game.
We could have scored ten I think.

"I have been in football a long time but that was one of those halves that you can't believe you have not scored. If we'd still been playing now we would probably have scored. It was unbelievable really second half. That is the best half since I have been here but it didn't go for us.

"I don't like getting beat but you can take some positives out of it."

Wrexham struck the post three times in the first half and were on top after the break, with Kidderminster keeper Adam Bartlett making a string of fine saves.

And Saunders lost count of the chances Wrexham had to get back in the game.

"Wes hit and unbelievable strike first half that nearly broke the post, and Nathan Woolfe goes in the left channel and nearly breaks the same post," said Saunders.

"Then Jefferson Louis hit the other post right on hand time.

"Second half the keeper made a save from Marc Williams right at the end, and another save from Nathan Woolfe.

"Nathan was in the middle of the goal and he hit the sidenetting when we thought it had gone in.

"The keeper makes a great save from Patrick Suffo – I could keep going, I have lost count.

"If the goalkeeper has a great day, well done to them, they did cause us problems."

Although disappointed to go behind in the 25th minute, Saunders praised his players for their efforts in trying to get back into the game.

"The goal wasn't a very good one to concede," said Saunders.

"They got far too many crosses in on their right hand side first half.

"We seemed to sort that out at half-time and I don't think they got any in second half.

"To be fair to them they were causing us a few problems but we conceded one goal.

"We came out second half and the lads showed some determination to try and get back in the game. And they couldn't have done any more.

"We showed some determination today, we didn't lie down and die like what has happened in the past. That is all I ask from them.

"If you don't lie down and die you can come back in any game."

Saunders, who made the best start to a managerial stint at The Racecourse with those five league victories in a row, is hoping to bounce back to winning ways at Stevenage Borough on Saturday.

"You can't win every game so we move on to the next one now," said Saunders.

"We have got to take the way we finished that game into the next one, and try and win that one.

"Sometimes the ball doesn't break for you in football and today it wasn't with us.

"We are going to try and win every game. We have got two games in hand and we have got to win them.

"All I am thinking about at Stevenage is three points."

Saunders could be without on-loan right-back Ritchie de Laet who hobbled off with an ankle injury.

"Ritchie has got a whack on his ankle but to be fair to him he is playing again when his stomach isn't right," added Saunders.

"He is having an operation soon so he has played knowing that as well.

"Ritchie gets a pat on the back from all of us. That is what I want at the club, people who want to play."
