Saunders wants winning mentality

DEAN SAUNDERS knows Wrexham won't always be at their best but he believes his players should still be capable of churning out the results.
Although it was not one of their better performances under his tenure, Wrexham recorded a 2-1 victory at Stevenage Borough on Saturday with striker Marc Williams scoring the winning goal nine minutes from time.
And Saunders believes Wrexham can still keep winning matches if they continue to show the same battling qualities.
"We will go to Northwich with the same winning mentality and never-say-die attitude," said Saunders today.
"We are playing well at times, but even when we are not, we are still getting results.
"We are not making the stupid defensive mistakes this club has been making for the last two years.
"We have come through and finished games strongly, and getting three points by being able to go to the wire.
"That is down to the players putting the effort in and doing everything right.
"We are stopping the other team playing well. You have to look their player in the eye and your first thought is if I can't play well, he won't play well.
"If you stay in games, class comes through."
Wrexham tonight face struggling Northwich Victoria who are four points adrift of the relegation zone, and having faced sides such as Kidderminster Harriers and Stevenage who are challenging at the other end of the table on their travels in recent weeks, Saunders knows Wrexham can't take Northwich for granted.
"Everyone is looking forward to the game," said Saunders. "The players know they have to keep doing what we have been doing.
"They have to play as if it is their last game of football ever.
"You can't relax against anybody. If we stop working and relax mentally anyone can beat us, and we know what happened at Eastwood in the FA Cup.
"But we know what we can do."
The trip to Northwich will be Wrexham's fifth consecutive away match in all competitions, and their 12th on the road out of 20 league games played to date.
But Saunders is just focussed on picking up another victory: "It does not matter if we are home or away, games are games to me," he added.
"It is nice to play at home but it is 11 versus 11, and we are looking for three points.
"We will have loads of fans there which is great. They have been brilliant away this season and that drives the players on."
Midfielder Ryan Flynn, who joined Wrexham on loan from Liverpool prior to last week's transfer deadline, will have to wait to make his debut as he is nursing a sore thigh.
Meanwhile, Reds' centre-back Darran Kempson will spend another month on loan at Forest Green Rovers.
