Basement side Wrexham, who take on two of their fellow strugglers this week, are now eight points away from safety following their 3-2 defeat at Barnet on Saturday.
Wrexham take on second from bottom Mansfield Town, just one point ahead of the Reds, at Field Mill tomorrow and then entertain 19th place Macclesfield, who are still not out of trouble despite a victory at the weekend, on Saturday at The Racecourse.
And right-back Spender said Wrexham have to target consecutive victories against their relegation rivals in the battle to avoid the drop.
"They are both big games," said Spender today. "We have got to go to Mansfield and get a result. Anything less than a win isn't going to do much for us.
"We need to win both games. Anything less won't start to worry them.
"Because they are around us, if they start to pick up points they will pull further away.
"We need to make sure they don't pick up points so we need to beat them both.
"We've got to start winning games. If we win Tuesday and Saturday, and other results don't go for other teams, we are still in with a good shout."
Spender admitted Wrexham paid the price for poor defending against Barnet at Underhill.
"It was a poor result. We played well but conceded stupid goals," said Spender.
"That has been our problem this season. And then when we go and score at the other end, we concede something silly.
"We can't seem to get it right and I just don't know what it is this season."
Spender scored his first goal of the season at Barnet but he admitted defeat soured his rare strike.
"It was my first of the season and although it is always great to score goals, with the situation we are in you can't really celebrate with it," added Spender.
"I have got about six or seven now for Wrexham and although it's nice to score, we really need to start winning and picking up points which is what counts."
Manager Brian Little remained upbeat about Wrexham's chances of beating the drop.
And regardless of the outcome at Barnet, Little said tomorrow's clash at Mansfield was always going to be important.
"I still believe we can win two games in a row which is what we need to do," said Little. "There is only one way to approach it and that is to really go for it. We won't go into a shell.
"If we had won today, the Mansfield game was massive, we lost so it is massive. We just need to try and finish above two teams."
