JONATHAN BROWN today revealed that the chance of playing under Dean Saunders at a Welsh club was a big factor in him joining Wrexham.
The Wales under 21 international striker has joined the Reds on a one-month loan deal and is in line to make his debut when they take on Stevenage Borough at Broadhall Way on Saturday.
And having teamed up with Saunders in the Welsh set-up,18-year-old Brown jumped at the chance of linking up with him at Wrexham.
"The gaffer, Dave Jones, pulled me in the office and said Dean Saunders would like me to come to Wrexham for a month," said Brown today.
"I was buzzing as soon as I heard. "I know a few boys at Wrexham from Wales under 21s and that helps. And Dean Saunders was a big factor as I know him from the Wales set-up.
"If it had been another Blue Square Premier club I would not have fancied it as much.
"He is doing a terrific job at the moment. Hopefully that continues and Wrexham get back up the league to where they belong."
Brown has worked his way through the youth system at Ninian Park and made his first team debut against Welshpool Town in the FAW Premier Cup in January this year where he scored the only goal.
He made his league debut as a late substitute in February against Coventry City and after making a second appearance from the bench before the end of the season, was rewarded with a first professional deal.
Brown has not tasted first team action at Cardiff this season despite being named on the substitutes' bench in recent weeks, but he has scored five goals in six reserve team games.
And Bridgend-born Brown hopes that performing well for Wrexham will increase his chances of first-team football with the Bluebirds who he is contracted with until next summer.
"I train with the first team every day at Cardiff and have been on the bench the last couple of weeks," he said. "But I have slipped down the pecking order with a couple of players coming back from injury.
"Hopefully when I do go back I get the chance to prove myself to Dave Jones so I want to make a big impression at Wrexham.
Determined to help Wrexham in their bid for promotion, Brown added: "I am here until January 3 and I would love to stay longer if I am doing well.
"I've come here to get games and experience. I need to get a lot of games under my belt at first team level. I am really looking forward to my time here and hopefully I make a big impression, and do well."
As well as being familiar with the likes of Neil Taylor and Mike and Marc Williams, Brown has been named in Brian Flynn's Wales under 21 squad along with Swansea City midfielder Joe Allen whose two-game spell on loan with Wrexham was cut short in October because of a training ground injury.
And Brown said Allen held Wrexham in high regard following his time with the club: "Wrexham are flying at the moment. I have been following their progress and have also spoken to Joe Allen who said how well they have been doing," he said. "Joe said he wants to come back up to Wrexham when he is fit because he enjoyed it here."
Saunders is delighted with the addition of the pacy Brown – he was Welsh 100m champion at the 12-14 age group – and he said will provide another dimension to the Wrexham attack.
And Brown added: "I used to do a lot of athletics and I would say the main part of my game is my pace and finishing."
Brown's team-mate, defender Aaron Morris, who has made one substitute appearance for Cardiff in the Carling Cup this season, will also be training with Wrexham.
