Williams is one of four players that have been placed on the transfer list by manager Brian Little but the 30-year-old shot stopper has featured in all of Wrexham's pre-season friendlies.
Happy to stay and fight for his place, Williams is determined to displace Gavin Ward as first choice keeper.
"At the end of the season, the manager said if I do go away, fair enough, but if I come back we will get on with things," said Williams today.
"It is a fresh start and a new season.
"I am fighting with Wardy for the goalkeeper shirt and I don't see why I can't be number one.
"The gaffer explained the situation to us and he is making changes here, there and everywhere.
"I am more than willing to stay here and fight for my place. I want to be number one – there are no two ways about it.
"Of course I still think I can be Wrexham's number one.
"It's not like me and Wardy don't get on. The manager picks the team and it is between us two, and hopefully I can get back in."
Williams is delighted to have been given a chance in pre-season and he is happy with his performances.
"Obviously it is nice to play games and it is going well so far – I have not conceded a goal myself personally – and we are looking quite sharp as a team," said Williams.
"We have played some big teams and have held our own.
"We've had some good results and the next couple of games we are looking more to teams we are likely to come up against, a different style of football.
"They will be more of a battle and more suited to the teams in our league."
Wrexham have only conceded one goal in four friendly matches – two were played behind closed doors – but the Reds have only scored once themselves.
And Williams is hoping Wrexham can improve in front of goal.
"You have got a platform if you don't concede," added Williams.
"But we know from last season that we did not score a lot of goals so we have got to look to build on that as well as do the right job at the back."
