TERRY DARRACOTT has urged the Wrexham players to take their excellent work on the training pitch into tomorrow's match against Mansfield Town at Field Mill (3pm).
Wrexham return to action following an 11-day absence because of international call-ups, but they have been kept busy on the training pitches at Colliers Park under the guidance of assistants Darracott and Brian Carey.

Manager Dean Saunders is due back today after his spell away with Wales boss John Toshack and he will be looking to continue his excellent start in the Racecourse hotseat.

Wrexham – up to 10th in the table with a game in hand – have recorded back-to-back wins against Forest Green Rovers (3-2) and York City (3-1) since Saunders took charge and Darracott wants to see the Reds build on that sequence.

"We are looking to carry on where we left off against York and Forest Green," said Darracott today.

"It is an away game but it is important we try and carry on in the fashion we did in those two matches.

"Dean was very encouraged by both games, not because we won but the manner we played.

"We are looking to build on that but we are not getting carried away.
"We know it will be tough as most away games are, but we have got the confidence we can put in the same kind of performance.

"The attitude has been first class in training, the players have responded to what we are doing, and we are looking to take that into tomorrow's game.

"If we can, it gives us a great chance of getting a result."

Saunders has got a couple of injury worries ahead of the trip to Mansfield who were relegated with Wrexham from the Football League last season.

Definitely out is midfielder Andy Fleming who limped off with a cartilage injury during Tuesday's practice match against Accrington Stanley and is waiting to find out if he will require surgery.

Leading scorer Jefferson Louis picked up a hamstring strain in the same match and may miss the chance of facing his former club having not trained for the last two days.

But Darracott hopes players brought into the side are ready to make the most of their opportunity: "We have got a couple of doubts but everyone else has trained well, he said.

"If they are out it is a chance for other people to show us what they can do. It is early days and we have only been at the club for two weeks.

"You have to consider other players who have not been in the side. It is a squad game and they are going to have to come in at some stage.

"Everyone will get their opportunity for one reason or another, whether it be because of injury, lack of form or because we want to change it around."

Saunders has already shown he is willing to give players that were out of favour with previous manager Brian Little their chance.

Fleming and Silvio Spann have made their first appearances of the season since Saunders took over, and Darracott stressed that every player was making a fresh start under the new regime.

"When there is a change in management and staff everyone is in the same situation," said Darracott.

"We need to see everybody and won't discard players who were out in the cold for one reason or another under the old manager.

"They need to show they are worth a try first of all in training, and when they play it is a chance to show us what they can do."

Wrexham's Welsh contingent all returned from international duty free from injury and Wrexham were hoping Spann reports back unscathed today.

Recalled to the Trinidad and Tobago squad, Spann played 90 minutes as his side beat USA in a World Cup qualifier on Wednesday evening.

"We will wait and see how Silvio is with regards to the team," added Darracott.

Centre-back Ashley Westwood is expected to complete the formalities of his short-term deal which runs until the end of the year and could be involved tomorrow.

The vastly experienced Westwood has been without a club since being released by Stevenage Borough at the end of the season but has impressed during his trial with Wrexham.

Meanwhile talks are continuing in Wrexham's attempts to bring former Manchester city midfielder Kiki Musampa to The Racecourse.

n Wrexham were today waiting to find out who they'll face in the third round of the Setanta Shield.

The draw was made at the Conference's board meeting in London yesterday but it won't be revealed until later today.

The FA, however, has released the draw for the first round proper of the FA Youth Cup and Wrexham will be at home to Cammell Laird or Curzon Ashton, but only if they can get past Nantwich Town in next Thursday's final qualifier at The Weaver Stadium.
