Former Manchester United trainee Ashley Westwood has agreed to join Wrexham FC until the end of the year.
The 32-year-old former Manchester United trainee, who began training with Wrexham FC last week, played alongside Reds boss Dean Saunders at Bradford City earlier in his career and is in line to make his debut at Mansfield Town on Saturday.

After failing to make the grade at Old Trafford, Westwood went on to play for Crewe Alexandra, Sheffield Wednesday, Northampton, Chester, Swindon and Port Vale, making more than 300 first class appearances.

Westwood signed for Blue Square Premier outfit Stevenage Borough at the start of the January transfer window but was released in July, and joined Lincoln City on trial earlier this month featuring in a couple of reserve team games.

Meanwhile, assistant manager Terry Darracott insisted that Wrexham have got to make the most of home advantage when they begin their FA Cup campaign later this month.

Wrexham have been drawn against either Eastwood Town or Harrogate Town at The Racecourse in a fourth qualifying round tie that is due to be played on Saturday October 25.

Harrogate, third in the Conference North table, drew 2-2 with Eastwood - eighth in the Northern Premier League - at the weekend, and the replay is being staged tonight.

And Darracott said Wrexham have to approach the tie in the right manner in an attempt to have a decent run in the famous competition: "It is interesting and exciting when the FA Cup comes around. We have got a home draw which is what you want," he said.

"It is great being at home and it is up to us to make the most of it.

"Whoever we play will be up for it. Teams are when they play someone from a higher division so we have to make sure we do a proper job.

"It does not matter what division they are from, we want to get through to the next round, and have a good cup run.

"The first objective is the league but this is a welcome distraction for one week and we want to make progress.

"Wrexham have done well in the cup over the years and we will be looking to that too."

Darracott has taken over the reigns with Brian Carey in the absence of Saunders who is currently assisting Wales boss John Toshack.

The duo will watch two behind closed doors practice matches this week, with Wrexham playing Accrington Stanley today before facing Blackburn Rovers tomorrow.

Having been without a game at the weekend because of international call-ups, Darracott is keen to give the Reds' players a run-out ahead of Saturday's trip to Mansfield.

"We are playing two games and all the players will be given a run-out in either game," added Darracott. "We are in every day and we just think it breaks up the training by having games.

"It is also a chance to work on things we have gone through in training. It is an important week. We have had a break and the build up for Mansfield has started."

Midfielder Silvio Spann has been recalled by Trinidad and Tobago for their World Cup qualifier against USA tomorrow.

Spann, who made his first appearance of the season in the Reds' 3-1 victory against York City, is due to return on Friday.

Centre-back Steve Evans, not required for Wales' World Cup qualifier in Germany tomorrow, was back in training yesterday along with Nat Brown (virus).

And it has been agreed that midfielder Tom Taylor is free to find another club.
