WREXHAM'S hopes of staging a great escape from relegation look remote after losing at Mansfield.
The Reds went down 2-1 after goals from Jefferson Louis and Johnny Mullins.

Substitute Marc Williams replied for Brian Little's side with 12 minutes remaining, but Werexham couldn't salvage a point in a hugely disappointing night.

Louis put Mansfield ahead from the spot in the 49th minute after Gareth Evans was adjudged to have handled.

Six minutes later, the Reds found themselves further behind when Mullins converted Matthew Hamshaw's cross.

Williams then gave Wrexham hope when he was set up by Stuart Nicholson, who was restored to the starting eleven in place of top scorer Michael Proctor.

But Mansfield held out for the three points, leaving the Reds deep in trouble at the foot of League 2.

Wrexham: Ward, Mike Williams, Gareth Evans, Bolland, Spender, Hall (65 Danny Williams), Llewellyn, Roberts (64 Proctor), Aiston, Nicholson, Broughton (71 Marc Williams)

Subs not used: Hope, Done
