The Reds - who had Richard Hope back in the starting eleven after Steve Evans failed to shake off a knock picked up against Peterborough - fell behind eight minutes into the second half when Michael Boulding put the visitors in front.
Wrexham came back strongly and top-scorer Michael Proctor - also restored to the starting line-up - equalised from a free kick on 68 minutes.
But Brian Little's side couldn't find the finish to earn all three points and the result leaves them six points adrift of safety, although they do have three games in hand.
