Wrexham look to strike it lucky

THREE strikers were today aiming to make their presence felt at The Racecourse.
Manager Dean Saunders was due to complete the loan signing of Cardiff City's Jonathan Brown while trialist Keiron St Aimie, who scored in Wrexham's 4-1 behind-closed doors practice match win yesterday, admitted he would like to join the Reds.
And recent signing Patrick Suffo is hoping to build on his impressive substitute appearance for Wrexham which almost led to a goal with his first touch on his debut.
Saunders has brought in Wales under 21 international Brown on a one-month loan deal from Championship highfliers Cardiff.
Bridgend-born Brown has worked his way through the youth system at Ninian Park and made his first team debut against Welshpool Town in the FAW Premier Cup in January this year where he scored the only goal to put the Bluebirds in the semi-finals.
He made his league debut as a late substitute in February against Coventry City and made a second appearance later in the season, again coming off the bench in the 3-1 win over Blackpool.
The 18-year-old was rewarded with a first professional contract and he penned a one year deal at the club.
Saunders is delighted with the addition of pacy Brown - he was Welsh 100m champion at the 12-14 age group - who he said will offer Wrexham something different in attack.
"Jonathan is very, very quick," said Saunders. "He has got a lot of potential and is different to what we have got.
"I am fortunate to see him training when I am away with Wales and I would like to thank Dave Jones for letting him come here. Jonathan will provide another dimension to our attack with his out and out pace.
"That is something you need away from home because you can't defend against pace sometimes."
Brown joins fellow loanees Ritchie de Laet, Angelos Tsiaklis, Nathan Woolfe and Nathan Fairhurst at the club and Saunders said the youngsters represent excellent value for money.
"They are enthusiastic and want to come here to learn," said Saunders. "I am grateful they have been allowed to by their clubs who are helping us out.
"They are not earning massive amounts and I can sign maybe two or three for the same money some people here are on."
St Aimie, who has been made available for transfer by Barnet, has joined on trial for a second time.
The former Queens Park Rangers trainee, who grabbed two goals while on loan for Grays Athletic in their 2-1 win against Wrexham in September said: "I am training for the week and it is up to the manager then. I have been transfer listed by Barnet so we will see what happens here.
"I am interested in joining. It is a very good club and I would like to play under Dean Saunders. The aim is to impress here so I hope it goes well."
Saunders will continue to run the rule over St Aimie, adding: "We will take a further look at Keiran in training this week and make a decision on him."
Cameroon international Suffo, on a pay-as-you play deal, almost scored just 60 seconds after being brought on for his debut at Kidderminster and said he was happy with his first appearance.
"I took it well and thought it was in," said Suffo. "I had only been on a couple of few minutes and it was my first touch - it would have been the perfect start.
"I thought I did as much as I could when I came on and scoring would have been fantastic.
"It fell good playing again, though it would have been better if we won.
"It's the first time I have played for a while but I have been training with Wrexham for a few weeks and I felt okay. I am happy with the deal here - I just want to play football."
Suffo is hoping to weigh in with goals but he said the priority was seeing the Reds pick up victories.
"Dean Saunders is fantastic, not just to me but all the lads," added Suffo. "With his experience, he is trying to help the players improve which is good.
"I am hoping to score goals and I am sure one will lead to more.
"But I am not worried about scoring. As a striker you want to score but the main thing is helping the team win."
While Saunders was busy completing the signing of Brown, after frontman with the same surname was leaving The Racecourse.
Summer signing Simon Brown has joined Rushden and Diamonds on a one-month loan deal and with Saunders boasting a first team squad of more than 30 players, has not ruled out more leaving for similar spells.
"Maybe more will follow," said Saunders. "I have been taking calls from people and something could happen."
But Saunders praised the performance of the Wrexham XI side in yesterday's practice match against Accrington which featured players not in the first team frame.
Shaun Whalley (2), Sam Aiston and St Aimie were on target and Saunders said: "It was a tremendous display and some of the goals we scored were top drawer."
