MARC WILLIAMS is looking for Wrexham to repeat last season's late heroics to keep alive their faint hopes of avoiding relegation.
Rock bottom Wrexham take on high-flying Milton Keynes Dons at stadium:mk tonight (7.45pm) standing seven points from safety following a five game winless run which has yielded just two points.

Only six matches remain and striker Williams said Wrexham now have to reproduce the form shown in last seas on's run-in if the Reds are going to avoid the drop.

"I was disappointed we only drew on Saturday against Macclesfield as it is at a time when we needed three points," said Williams today.

"Results went our way and if we could have won, it would have been a big boost ahead of tonight's game.

"We need to go on a run like we did last year. We can do it.

"It is all about getting that first win which gives you confidence for the next game.

"If we can win tonight, then we'll look to build on that at Shrewsbury.

"We are seven points behind Notts County with a game in hand, and we really need to win matches. There is no room for error."

Wrexham have already beaten Paul Ince's second place Dons, who are on course for automatic promotion, when the sides met at The Racecourse in January.

A Neil Roberts strike secured victory and Williams said the key to that success was a hard working display from the Reds.

"We know it will be difficult at MK Dons but we really need three points," said Williams. "We are not expected to win so we can go there and play our own game.

"We beat them at home and that was a grafting performance. We worked hard and did not let them play. If we do that again, and we can sneak a goal, hopefully we will win and stay in the relegation fight."

Williams made his first start for nearly three months in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Macclesfield at The Racecourse, playing in the hole behind the two strikers.

That came on the back of a goalscoring appearance as a substitute in the defeat at relegation rivals Mansfield Town in the previous outing, taking his tally to the season to three goals.

And the 19-year-old is hoping to weigh in with more goals in a bid to help Wrexham pull clear of trouble.

"I was delighted to score. It was my first game back and to get a goal was nice," added Williams.

"It was pleasing to follow that up with a start on Saturday in the hole behind the front two – it is the position I prefer.

"Hopefully I can get a couple more goals to help the team and keep us in the league."

Williams will again he handed a starting role at MK Dons tonight but manager Brian Little is forced into two changes.

Striker Drewe Broughton, into the third and final month of his loan spell from the Dons, is not allowed to face his parent club, and also missing is right-wing back Simon Spender, stretchered off at the weekend with a minor ankle ligament injury, so Gareth Evans will come into the side.

"Hopefully Simon won't be out too long but it is a blow that Wes Baynes is also injured so Gareth will come in on the right," said Little.

"Marc can push forward up the middle and someone like Paul Hall or Stuart Nicholson can come in for Drewe.

"We will miss Drewe. Drewe gives you something different and I have been pleased with his performances as he has done well.

Defender Mike WIlliams is added to the squad while midfielder Jeff Whitley, who has missed the last two matches with a shoulder problem, trained yesterday and could also be involved.
