BRIAN LITTLE admitted it was important that Wrexham avoided defeat against Grimsby Town at The Racecourse on Saturday.
Wrexham were held to a 0-0 draw by mid-table Grimsby in a clash that provided few decent goal scoring chances.

The point means that bottom of the table Wrexham, now six points away from safety but with games in hand on their relegation rivals, are
now unbeaten in six outings.

And Little was pleased the Reds' unbeaten run remained intact: "Draws are better than losing and we are looking stronger than we were a while back," he said today.

"Have we got enough time? I hope so. But we are trying our best and nobody watching us can say we are not trying.

"I feel happier drawing 0-0 than several weeks ago when we were losing games like this by one or two nil.

"I have to remain philosophical about all sorts of things. My target is the same as everybody else's and I hope I achieve it for everybody, but I can't be disappointed at stopping the opposition from scoring.
"That is the most important thing we have to do.

"I am not disappointed with this current run of results. I am aware that wins are important – but not losing these games is vital for us."

Although Wrexham clinched a point, Little, whose side entertain Peterborough at The Racecourse tomorrow before hosting fellow strugglers Mansfield Town on Saturday, was disappointed not to have beaten Grimsby.

"It is a bit disappointing but we have just got to get as many points as we can this week and then look at it again," said Little.

"We said before the game that we can't afford to get embarrassed at 0-0. Every point is a good point.

"Is it a good point? Well, it is better than none, that's for sure.

"We are disappointed because we were at home and we would like to win games but at the same time we have kept another clean sheet and the team has worked hard.

"I think Gavin Ward made one save in the first half but outside that had nothing much else to do.

"We can play better, but Saturday was one of those days when you try and grind out a result.

"We tried with our substitutions to win the game so we know we tried to be positive."

Wrexham last tasted defeat in the corresponding fixture at Blundell Park in January when a second half goal secured a 1-0 win for Grimsby.

And Little acknowledged that Saturday's stalemate was another tight affair: "We had a similar problem when we last played Grimsby when we felt both teams pretty much cancelled each other out," he said.

"For the first 25 minutes we tried to play with the three strikers but when we didn't score, you could feel them getting more of the ball in the middle of the park and we just matched them up, and tried to grind out a result.

"I think both teams were pretty much the same as each other. It was man-for-man all over the park and you felt that if it was going to be won, it was similar to their place where it was either going to be a mistake or a special goal.

"The one half-chance when Michael Proctor has gone through was just a foot or two too high.

"It was a hard- fought game where both sides cancelled each other out, and probably the right result."

Happy to have extended their unbeaten run, Little is hoping Wrexham can stretch that record to eight games with positive results against Darren Ferguson's Peterborough and second from bottom Mansfield this week.

"I am pleased about that and with a couple more games this week, it would be nice if we were saying eight on Saturday," added Little.

"That is our target and we will try very hard to do that.

"It would be great if we could get out of trouble in a week or so but it might not be that way.

"We have talked as a group about what we have got to do for the rest of the season, how strong we have got to stay and how together we have got to be.

"We are well tuned in to what we have to do."
