WREXHAM once again held their own against a side from the Championship.
The Reds drew 0-0 against Blackpool at The Racecourse in their latest pre-season friendly, and there were plenty of positives to take out of the match.

The better of the chances fell to Wrexham who probably edged the friendly, their fourth run-out of the close season including two behind closed doors practice matches.

All have been against sides from higher divisions, and manager Brian Little will be more than happy with his side's workrate.

A real positive note is Wrexham's defensive work, something that needed addressing after last season.

Wrexham, with a host of centre-backs at Little's disposal, looked tight at the back and determined to keep Blackpool out.

The Reds have now only conceded one goal in four matches, and Little has clearly set the stall out for the coming season.

On the negative side, Wrexham are still struggling in front of goal.

Despite creating the better of the chances, and making head way with some neat build up play, Wrexham are still lacking that killer touch in the key area.

But Little could not fault his side's approach.

"It is always nice if you can score three or four goals but we have played teams from the Championship and it's not really going to happen on a regular basis," said Little.

"If it does it is a massive bonus. It is the fitness work and how we work as a team trying to get the ball back and then try to counter attack which is what we have tried to base our training on at the moment."

Once again, Little took the opportunity to field all of his fit outfield players.

Twenty one players were used in total, with just striker Marc Williams lasting the entire 90 minutes.

Latest signing Darran Kempson, who joined on Thursday from Shrewsbury Town, began the match in the centre of defence and was a rock at the back throughout the opening 45 minutes.

Wes Baynes headed wide after nine minutes before goalkeeper Anthony Williams saved from Stuart Green at the other end.

Stuart Green fired wide, Williams also denied Stephen McPhee and Steven Kabba failed to direct his header on target.

But Wrexham began to come more into the game and Sam Aiston somehow turned his close range effort over the bar after good work from Jefferson Louis and Tom Kearney.

Keeper Paul Rachuba saved Baynes deflected effort and Marc Williams went wide as Wrexham ended the half on top.

The second half began with McPhee blasting over the bar after being put through on goal by Ben Burgess, and Green was denied by keeper Ward.

But back came Wrexham and following Aiston's mazy run, he slid the ball through to Marc Williams but he sliced wide with just keeper Matt Gilks to beat.

Michael Proctor dragged a close range shot wide and Silvio Spann's 20 yard drive was tipped over the bar by Gilks.

Back came Blackpool and Kabba saw his goalbound shot blocked, and the striker was once again thwarted by Ward in the next meaningful attack.

Wrexham came close to a winner seven minutes from time when Spann teed up Marc Williams but his effort was deflected wide for a corner.

Honours were even in the end and Wrexham were able to hold their heads high once again.
