Wrexham drew 0-0 against League One outfit Crewe Alexandra to complete their programme of friendlies at The Racecourse.
The goal-less draw came on the back of an identical stalemate against Blackpool on Saturday, while Wrexham had begun their home series of friendlies with a narrow 1-0 victory over another Championship side, Wolves.
The good thing is Wrexham aren't conceding, and last night they came up against an impressive Crewe side who attacked with purpose and kept the Reds' back line on their toes.
Crewe were a good test, and the commitment of the Wrexham players at the end when they were hanging on, throwing themselves at shots to keep the visitors out, was an excellent sign.
But there will be fears that it is the same old story at the other end.
Questions will be asked whether Wrexham have got goals in them this season, although the Reds did have a couple of opportunities to get on the scoresheet.
At least Wrexham are not conceding and they are heading in the right direction without yet fielding a settled side.
Hampered by injuries, manager Brian Little used 21 players and he can be pleased how his side have come through these Racecourse friendly matches unbeaten against three sides at least two divisions above the Reds.
Now the boot is on the other foot for Wrexham who travel to Colwyn Bay and Stafford Rangers for their final two friendlies, and some goals from the Reds will be a welcome boost in that department.
As long as injuries clear up, it is likely that more players will get 90 minutes under their belts in those two outings as Little gets closer to deciding what will be the starting 11 when Wrexham begin their Blue Square campaign next month.
Little decided against risking a number of players who had not fully recovered from knocks sustained in the last week, but he took the opportunity to give two trialists a chance to impress.
Striker Adam Smith, brought in for his first training session with the Reds on Monday, was named in the side for the opening half alongside midfielder Christian Smith who had only come in on trial earlier in the day.
And there was also a place in attack for summer signing Shaun Whalley who was making his first Wrexham appearance after recovering from an ankle injury sustained at the start of pre-season training.
Crewe made a lively start and when Joel Grant sprung the offside trap on 10 minutes, Darren Kempson, who had already made some timely challenges, was on hand to cut out a dangerous cross.
Wrexham survived a couple of other scares as Crewe continued to threaten by moving the ball around well, and they almost scored when a Eugene Bopp corner was turned goalwards by Julien Baudet but keeper Gavin Ward parried on his line to deny the centre-back.
Kyle Critchell, lining up on the right of midfield, was booked for a late challenge after 25 minutes on Jake Livermore who then limped off, but Crewe were not affected by the change and Nicky Maynard's 20-yard snap-shot well held by Ward.
Although Crewe had the better of the first half, Wrexham midfielder Tom Kearney almost spectacularly opened the scoring in the 37th minute.
Aiston, always looking to get involved, fed Whalley who in turn played the ball back to Kearney and his 25 yard drive struck the outside of the post.
Little made nine changes at the break with just trialists Christian and Adam Smith, the latter who switched from attack to a left-wing role, staying on for the second period.
But it was Crewe who threatened a goal and when Grant's initial effort had been charged down, Bopp's follow-up was blocked by centre-back Nat Brown, with the ball just clearing Anthony Williams' goal.
At the other end, Levi Mackin's deflected drive fell wide of the target and Brown just failed to get on the end of the resulting corner.
Crewe keeper Steve Collis was forced into a rare save when he kept out Brown's header, but Wrexham's defence was but under pressure as Crewe rallied.
The dangerous Bopp brought an excellent save out of Williams who did well to keep out his rocket-shot, and the Crewe man saw another effort cleared off the line by Andy Fleming when a corner was only partially cleared.
Chris Marriott was introduced in place of Adam Smith on 76 minutes but Williams had to be alert to make a late save as Crewe made a late attempt to grab victory.
Wrexham withstood the late pressure by throwing themselves at shots to keep Crewe at bay, and the Reds held on for a creditable draw.
